The "Grand Surgeon" a.k.a. WILL P.
Has been in this Hip Hop culture since the late 1970's. At an early age growing up in (Park Slope, Flatbush and East Flatbush) Brooklyn he was exposed to the roots of Hip Hop from D.J.'ing to B-Boy'ing to Rapp'ing from it's early days. During the mid 1970's as a child, he would spend time with his brother (Crazy Dreski) and visit his family (Forte Greene & Flatbush) where his teenage Aunt would have weekend parties which consisted of Disco dancing, M.C.'ing and the original form of D.J.'ing with Uprocking (Brooklyn Top Rocking) moves being exhibited. That was only the beginning.
During the late 1970's in East Flatbush (E.54 & Ave. D.) he saw a local street D.J. KEZ perform mixing and scratching of Reggae Dub music as well as chatting on the mic in front of his home and also block parties. It was the early 1980's which exposed him to rollerskating, and B-Boy'ing on the streets of Brooklyn (Coney Island, Sunset Park and Fort Hamilton Pkwy.), to the rollerskating rinks (U.S.A.,Roller Palace, Empire Roller Rink, Park Circle Rink) parks and clubs eventually. QUOTE : " I remember back in 1984, my brother Dre and I went to the Latin Quarters Club in Manhattan with a demo tape to submit to Joey Schwartz, in attendance was Dana Dane and Slick Rick just freestyling on the stage. When we walked in the club everyone was staring at us, I first thought it was because we were lightskinned but then I realized it was our outfits. We were wearing full Miami Vice gear, lol... Dana Dane loved it!, lol..." Will P. said : END QUOTE. In the mid 1980's a rap group called KINGSTAFF formed (Justice, Dreskee,M.C. Noise & Will P.) and linked a record deal w/ Majestic Controls (Half Pint, Alee-Mo) affiliated w/ the label that produced the cult rap classic "Rappin' Duke" and was affiliated with the popular N.Y.C. underground radio show "D.N.A. Hank-Love" on 105.9FM.
This is when Will P. was coined with the title the "Grand Surgeon". He would make the earliest forms of mixtapes complete with cuts and scratches and rapping, without the use of a D.J. set. He would edit the mixes using 1 turntable, metal tapes and two boom boxes with a receiver and mixer. the Grand surgeon distributed them successfully to the kids in the neighborhood to play in their boom boxes and Jeeps. After turmoil due to crime, and illegal activities by some members of the group, KINGSTAFF voided their recording deal but Will continued to develop his rhyming/writing skills. In the mid 1990's he also helped develop the Underground rap group the 67MOB(www.67MOB.com). Since then he has been on a few current mixtapes (www.datpiff.com, www.coast2coastmixtapes.com), some solo tracks with featured artists and linked up with the upcoming cutting edge rap group-NWO4LIFE(www.nwo4life.net). He is currently reviewing production, recording and managing deals for himself and collaborating with a few producers, rappers, and D.J.'s. to further his careeer. www.grandsurgeon.com
