(ELADIO) Wassup Six2? Welcome to www.hiphopdinromania.org .
(SIX-2) Chillin’, Thanks for having me.
(ELADIO) You started with El Dogg as the group GenaCide. Can you tell us more?
(SIX-2) Yeah El Dog and I were friends from high school and got together and formed Gena Cide. We wrote and put out and Album called "Waste Uva Cular" that got us some local attention with the radio stations here in Dallas/Fort Worth then we started to receive national attention and radio plays from our single "Tha Citi".
(ELADIO) Then you meet The D.O.C. and Dr. Dre. How that happened?
(SIX-2) I was working on a solo album with a producer named Erotic, who was also working with D.O.C. on something. Erotic let D.O.C. hear some of the stuff I was doing and since D.O.C new Dr. Dre was working on something new (The Chronic 2001) he took some of those songs to Dre to let him hear. Dre was looking for 3 new artists to feat and Dr. Dre liked what he heard and had D.O.C bring me to L.A.
(ELADIO) How is it workin with Dr. Dre?
(SIX-2) It was really more of a learning experience. You want to do your best all the time and just take in everything he has to teach you. But on a personal level he was great to work with.
(ELADIO) It's a special feeling working on a 8X platinum?
(SIX-2) I am still tripping on that to this day. The album is still in the Top 200 Best Albums of all time. I feel blessed to have been able to be there.
(ELADIO) You was also on The Up In Smoke Tour. How would you describe it?
(SIX-2) It was like Christmas everyday, but still a lot of work. I got a chance to work with, meet, and share the stage with the best of the best, and see just how much it takes to put on a show of that caliber night after night, city after city.
(ELADIO) What you think about Detox?
(SIX-2) Dr. Dre is looking for that sound, and I don't think he has found exactly what he is looking for yet, But I believe it will happen. as soon I can get back in touch with him without having to go through the people that I had to in the past.
(ELADIO) What's the story behind DEUCE?
(SIX-2) It was actually my solo album that I was working on at the same time as 2001. It was meant to be released by Dr.Dre and Aftermath Records. I actually surprised Dr.Dre by finishing it before we finished his album. Long story short D.O.C stole the album, Put his face on the cover, and released it through Sony Records as his own.
(ELADIO) The you worked with Timbaland. How that happened and how is it working with him, after working with Dr. Dre?
(SIX-2) When I returned home to Fort Worth Timbaland sent his "Manager" all the way from Miami to find me. I was at a Studio in Dallas called Good Night Audio (Where Stevie Nicks and her band used to record her albums) when they asked if I would be willing to come to Miami and work on a group album that Timbaland was putting together. It was Timbaland, Myself, Attitude, Keri Hilson, John Doe. he also said that he would help me put together another solo album I was working on at the same time. Again I finished my album before we got a chance to finish the group album and decided to take a few days off and go home. The next thing I know I am getting a call 1. Telling me the group album had been postponed and 2. That Timbaland has taken one of my songs "Wait a Minute" and sold it to the PussyCat Dolls as one of his own that he wrote. 3rd He now was doing a solo album and was using some of the songs that we had done for the group album. So as I started to fight for my rights for "Wait a Minute" my vocals were being removed, redone over by someone else, or placed on a different song. So as far as The difference between Timbaland and Dr.Dre It was night and day. Dr. Dre was always fair, up front, and honest. Timbaland was the exact opposite, he stole, hid, and lied.
(ELADIO) You're coming with 2 street album. Why not a double album?
(SIX-2) They are two different albums 1st is "Still Affiliated" that will be available October 2013 has songs that I did with artists from all over and the 2nd one "Legendary" is made up more of songs I have done with big name artists (Nate Dogg, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Big Mike, Ice Cube, Etc.)
(ELADIO) How about the project for the end of the year?
(SIX-2) This one will be a solo with all new songs, new producers, new way of doing things since this time I am in control.
(ELADIO) You said "I am ready to tell MY story, not the one that everybody thinks they know". What you mean?
(SIX-2) To make a long story short. I was taken advantage of by a lot of people. People like D.O.C and Erotic who told me that I was in L.A. and working with Dr. Dre on a trial basis. There to prove myself and maybe if I was lucky get a place on his album. But in reality Dr. Dre has already given me a spot on his team and was going to put out my solo album. ( I was set to be released before Eminem). They never told me I was getting paid to be there working. They were getting my money. They told Dr. Dre I was signed to D.O.C when I was never signed to anyone. I was told things had changed and D.r Dre was only going to put out my album if it said The D.O.C. Presents Six-2, and that I had done something to mess up the deal. Only to find out that the Album had been stolen from Dr.Dre. Then There were other people ( Russell Simmons, Cash Money to name a few) that wanted to work with me and since they were under the impression that I was signed to D.O.C. approached him and he was just greedy and wanted double the money, and then would turn around and tell me something different. Then there was Timbaland who besides stealing my songs besides Wait a Minute for the PussyCat Dolls there was Release for Justin Timberlake Bounce and Board Meeting off his Shock Value Vol 1. He would lie and tell people the reason I wasn't working with him any more was my work ethic was bad, but yet I had completed my own album while working on the group album before we could finish that. I never told everyone that the reason he got his deal for Shock Value was because of the songs that we wrote for him, that he doesn't write his own songs he has to use ghost writers but still gives himself writing credits. But I am a true believer in Karma and since these people have done wrong to me and others they have not been able to come out with anything else successful. Nothing from Erotic! Nothing from The D.O.C! Nothing from Timbaland! Yet when they are trying to get attention they use my name, or my songs. I spent a long time holding a lot of this in thinking that some day they would come to make it rite or at the least apologies and take responsibility, but I now know that day will never come and it will always be someone else that did it. I also questioned myself for a while, wondering if I had done something wrong. But everything that is done in the dark comes to light, and what I do know and what I tell everyone that wants to be in this business is "Get Your Paper Work Right. Have a lawyer look at it, Make sure you get what is yours, and don't ever take people at face value."
(ELADIO) Do you know about something about the European rap?
(SIX-2) Lazze from Sweden, Sway Dasafo from the U.K are few I have heard about.
(ELADIO) You send the e-mail to be promoted on a small blog like mine. Why does it matters to you?
(SIX-2) The size is not what matters. I am trying to reach the true fans and people who genuinely appreciate the art that is music. It takes a village ya know. I appreciate you giving me a platform from which to tell a bit of my story.
(ELADIO) Do you have a message for who's reading this interview in Romania (and not only here)?
(SIX-2) I want to say thank you for your support over the years. It is the fans that have kept me going and continue to keep me motivated to put out new music with the standards that they have come to expect from me. You can buy and download my previously released albums at www.six2.bandcamp.com and Still Affiliated is in your favorite online stores now with more added daily.
